The US Navy and the US Air Force separately partnered with Lumenbrite to develop pilot training courses that integrate traditional face-to-face instruction, eLearning, and 360/VR video training. This initiative aims to equip instructor pilots with the skills needed to create and deliver immersive 360/VR training courses.
A series of eLearning courses were developed to combine traditional pilot training methods with 360/VR video experiences using Meta Quest headsets. Video content is created with 360 video cameras mounted on aircraft canopies. Lumenbrite also conducted hands-on training for cohorts of instructor pilots, allowing them to learn 360 camera hardware and video workflows in a fun, dynamic environment.
As a result of this training initiative, numerous video projects and eLearning courses have been integrated into the pilot training programs. These projects have received recognition and commendations up to the highest levels, including from the Pentagon.
Lumenbrite conducted hands-on hardware training to teach the operation of various specialized 360 video cameras that would be mounted on a cockpit canopy to capture flight maneuvers and combat simulations. A blended training component included working in Premiere Pro and After Effects to edit and enhance 360 video that would be used in pilot training courses. Distance eLearning courseware was created with a combination of off-the-shelf and custom applications.
